As the Center has evolved, we are developing a focus:

“A STRENGTHS-BASED, ECOLOGICAL APPROACH TO HUMAN PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING IN URBAN SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES, ESPECIALLY AIMED AT THE CITY OF CINCINNATI .”

Our “ Healthy Schools and Families” grant in the Cincinnati Public Schools District middle schools of Oyler, Central Fairmount , and Whittier exemplifies this focus, as does our collaborative conference in which Dr. Laurie Smith from Teachers College-Columbia University, provided a major address in May, 2006 on working with people who are poor.

For a useful exposition of one source that provides direction for our efforts, see:

Report of the Task Force on Urban Psychology, “Toward an Urban Psychology: Research, Action, and Policy.” You can access this report in its entirety from the home page of the Public Interest Directorate of the American Psychological Association.
